Richard Kooyman was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan and received his BFA from Grand Valley State University with a Merit Scholarship. He earned his MFA from Ohio State University where he studied on a Full Fellowship. He has won numerous awards including the Sally Avery Fellowship at the Vermont Studio Center, The Michigan Governors Award, National Endowment for the Arts Grant, and the Michigan Council for the Arts Grant. His work has been exhibited nationally and is represented in many galleries across the country.
